Step 1 - Place your dull pencil inside the sharpener. It's best to align your current pencil edge parallel to the blade edge.

Step 2 - Fasten the side screw.

Step 3 - Push up the sides one at a time. Apply some force forward as you push up for a closer shave.

Step 4 - Unscrew side screw and remove pencil.
